Panos South Asia

Established in 1997, Panos South Asia (PSA) with its headquarters in Kathmandu is part of a family of Panos Institutes worldwide. Panos South Asia encourages and facilitates public discourse and debate on a wide range of issues, particularly those that have a direct impact on the least privileged and most marginalized sections of society.

Panos South Asia is an autonomous member of the Panos family of offices in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Globally, the Panos Institutes function as non-governmental organizations that support the media and promote conditions for greater freedom of expression in the southern countries. The Panos Institutes seek to strengthen media capacities in the south to produce and disseminate information, and to facilitate greater dialogues between and among different sections and segments of society. In particular, Panos works through the media to bring neglected subjects to the forefront of developmental and environmental discussions.

Panos South Asia has its headquarters in Kathmandu (Nepal) and country offices in New Delhi (India), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Karachi (Pakistan), and Dhaka (Bangladesh). The regional office in Kathmandu was established in 1997, the India office in 2000, the Sri Lanka office & the Pakistan office in 2004. The Bangladesh office opened in 2005 as also the North-East project office in Guwahati (India). We moved south to Chennai (India) in July 2006, to establish our Globalization Project Office.
