Rift continues between nations on climate change

Copenhagen, December 12 (Panos South Asia)--The UN climate change president Connie Hedegaard told the media today that there has been some considerable progress this week. Negotiators have advanced on texts on how to supply new green technologies like wind and solar power to developing nations.

There is also some progress in promoting use of forests to soak up carbon.

But deep rift still continue among negotiators especially on raising funds for developing nations and sharing burden of greenhouse gas emission curbs. Today, industrial countries criticized the draft climate agreement for failing to make stronger demands on major developing countries.

US delegate Jonahatn Pershing said that the draft failed to address the contentious issue of curbing carbon emissions by emerging economics. His view has been backed by the European Union, Japan and Norway.
