Political will is the key answer to reducing maternal mortality in any country but this is yet to be seen in most of the countries of South Asia region. Maternal health experts often face enormous challenge to convince the politicians, especially those in the government to make maternal health a priority. Politicians however say that they accord top priority to the health of the mothers but it is the government which is failing to live upto their commitments. Panos Radio South Asia spoke to Shirin Sharmin Chaudhary, state minister of women's and children's affairs from Bangladesh and Syed Ghulam Mustafa, the parliamentarian from Pakistan to find some answers.
